Why I'm interested in AI

Not because of the hype. The hype is mostly noise; people projecting their hopes or fears onto technology they don't understand.
I'm interested because AI represents a genuine discontinuity. Not in the "AGI will solve everything" sense, but in the "this changes what's economically viable" sense. Things that were too expensive to do at scale; summarization, translation, basic analysis; are now cheap. That shifts what's possible.
The interesting questions aren't about the technology itself. They're about who captures the value, what jobs actually change, and how institutions adapt (or don't). The technology is the easy part. The social and economic effects are harder to predict and more consequential.
